i heart hobbiton

James and I got to go to New Zealand a couple weeks ago and checking out the Hobbiton movie set was one of the first things on our agenda.
You arrive at a meeting point where you're led onto a big bus that drives you
through rolling neon green hills covered by perfectly adorable lambs. On the bus they show you a video with movie clips about the Shire and a little history on how it came to be. They actually picked the spot from a helicopter!
Upon arrival you're greeted with a tour guide and taken on the meandering walk through 40(!) Hobbit houses (each with a clothes line and chimney to boot). The houses are impeccably kept and look like real people (small people, of course) could live in them. Because it's isolated within acres upon acres of rolling green hills you really feel transported to a different enchanted world, which I looooved.
We ended at the Green Dragon where everyone got to pretend to be a Hobbit for 30 minutes while sitting in the restaurant (same as movie) and enjoying a house-made beer or cider.
I highly recommend this place...clearly :)
